Tóm tắt

Trong IELTS, không phải lúc nào cũng phù hợp để nói "I think" hay "I believe" rồi dừng lại. Hai loại quan điểm có vai trò khác nhau:

Strong Opinion Cautious Opinion
Ví dụ "It is undeniable that..." "It could be argued that..."

Q: Should governments ban fast food advertising aimed at children?

"I strongly believe that governments should impose strict regulations on fast food advertising directed at children. It is undeniable that children are highly susceptible to advertising, and the rise in childhood obesity over the past two decades is clear evidence that current measures are insufficient. However, it could be argued that parents ultimately bear the primary responsibility for their children's diet, and that blanket bans may infringe on commercial freedom. That said, I am convinced that** the health of future generations must take precedence over commercial interests."

Phân tích cấu trúc: - Câu 1: Strong stance (I strongly believe) - Câu 2-3: Strong evidence (it is undeniable, clear evidence) - Câu 4: Cautious acknowledgement (it could be argued) - Câu 5: Return to strong (I am convinced)

Lỗi thường gặp

Lỗi 1: Lạm dụng "I think" cho mọi câu

  • ❌ "I think pollution is bad. I think governments should act. I think people should care."
  • ✅ Thay đổi: "It is undeniable that pollution poses a serious threat. Governments must act urgently, and it could be argued that individual behaviour is equally important."

Lỗi 2: Dùng "maybe" thay vì cấu trúc học thuật

  • ❌ "Maybe this is because of economic reasons."
  • ✅ "This may be due to economic factors." / "It could be argued that economic pressures play a role."

Lỗi 3: Strong opinion không có bằng chứng

  • ❌ "I am completely sure that social media is bad." (không chứng minh được)
  • ✅ "I strongly believe that social media has significant negative effects on mental health, particularly among teenagers, as numerous studies have shown a correlation between heavy social media use and depression."

Lỗi 4: Cautious cả bài — nghe thiếu lập trường

  • ❌ Mọi câu đều dùng "might", "could", "perhaps" → không có main argument rõ ràng

Speaking Part 3 (opinion questions):

Q: Do you think young people today are more stressed than previous generations?

"I believe they are, and I think there's strong evidence for this — for instance, academic pressure has intensified dramatically, and there's no doubt that social media has added a new layer of comparison and anxiety that previous generations didn't face. That said, it could be argued that young people today also have more resources for managing stress, such as therapy apps and greater mental health awareness."

Writing Task 2 (thesis statement):

"While it could be argued that technology has improved quality of life in many ways, I firmly believe that its negative effects on social interaction and mental health represent a serious cause for concern that must be addressed urgently."
