“To” hay “by”?

Task 1 không chấm ý tưởng — nó chấm khả năng mô tả số liệu chính xác và khách quan. Điều đó dựa hoàn toàn vào ngữ pháp. Bộ công cụ cốt lõi:

Tại sao quan trọng

Task 1 được chấm trên Grammatical Range and Accuracy và Lexical Resource rất nặng. Một lỗi thì hoặc giới từ lặp đi lặp lại ("increased of 10%") kéo điểm GRA xuống nhanh. Ngược lại, dùng đúng bị động + so sánh + giới từ số liệu là cách dễ nhất để chạm Band 7 ở Task 1.

NHÓM 1: CHỌN ĐÚNG THÌ

Thì phụ thuộc vào mốc thời gian của dữ liệu, không phải thời điểm bạn viết.

NHÓM 2: BỊ ĐỘNG CHO QUÁ TRÌNH (process diagrams)

Sơ đồ quá trình mô tả việc được làm, không phải ai làm → dùng bị động.

S + is/are + V-ed (past participle)
  • First, the raw materials are collected and transported to the factory.
  • The mixture is then heated until it is fully dissolved.
  • Once packaged, the products are distributed to retailers.

Nối các bước bằng trình tự: first, next, then, after that, subsequently, finally.

NHÓM 3: SO SÁNH HƠN / NHẤT

Dùng "that of / those of" để tránh lặp danh từ: The rate for men was higher than that for women.

NHÓM 4: GIỚI TỪ SỐ LIỆU (lỗi phổ biến nhất)

⚠ Lỗi kinh điển: ❌ "increased of 10%" → ✅ "increased by 10%" hoặc "an increase of 10%".

Chọn thì theo trạng thái dữ liệu

Biểu đồ ghi giai đoạn 2000–2020 và không có dự báo. Chọn câu đúng.

NHÓM 5: MẠO TỪ, ĐỊNH LƯỢNG & SỰ HOÀ HỢP

"The number of" vs "A number of"

  • The number of students has risen. (số động từ số ít — "the number")
  • A number of students have complained. (= many → số nhiều)

"The proportion / percentage of"

  • The proportion of people was highest in 2010. (số ít)

Mạo từ với số liệu

  • ❌ Number of cars increased. → ✅ The number of cars increased.
  • ❌ Sales reached peak. → ✅ Sales reached a peak.

NHÓM 6: CÂU PHỨC ĐỂ SO SÁNH

Gộp hai số liệu đối lập trong một câu (whereas / while) thay vì hai câu rời:

  • Sales of tea fell steadily, whereas coffee consumption rose sharply.
  • While urban populations grew, rural numbers declined.
  • Spending on health increased, with education seeing a similar trend. (with + noun + V-ing)

Cấu trúc "with + noun + V-ing" rất gọn để thêm số liệu phụ: ..., with imports rising by 5%.

Tea sales fell. Coffee sales rose.

While tea sales fell steadily over the period, coffee consumption rose by approximately 20%.

💡 Dùng while/whereas để thể hiện tương phản; chỉ thêm số khi nó giúp câu chính xác hơn.

VIẾT CÂU OVERVIEW (không số liệu chi tiết)

Đoạn overview nêu xu hướng chung, không trích số cụ thể, thường dùng present hoặc câu so sánh tổng quát:

"Overall, it is clear that the majority of energy came from fossil fuels throughout the period, while renewable sources, although growing, remained a small share."

Lỗi thường gặp

Lỗi 1: Sai giới từ số liệu

  • ❌ rose of 10% / increased with 5 million
  • ✅ rose by 10% / increased by 5 million / a rise of 10%

Lỗi 2: Sai thì với biểu đồ

  • ❌ The chart showed... (biểu đồ đang tồn tại)
  • ✅ The chart shows... + dữ liệu quá khứ dùng past: ...sales rose...

Lỗi 3: Thiếu mạo từ

  • ❌ Number of tourists increased.
  • ✅ The number of tourists increased.

Lỗi 4: "The number of" + động từ số nhiều

  • ❌ The number of cars have risen.
  • ✅ The number of cars has risen.

Lỗi 5: Chủ động cho quá trình

  • ❌ Then they heat the mixture. (process nên khách quan)
  • ✅ Then the mixture is heated.
